Artist’s Statement

For me, this photo exhibit isn't really about the pictures themselves – it's about what I learned from God while taking and processing these images.

One month ago, my intention for the exhibit was not to show pictures of flowers. I had planned, instead, to show pictures I had shot on a recent trip to the West Coast. God, however, had something different in mind.

My Small Group meets on a one-block street that runs behind Porter Square along the Commuter Rail tracks. One recent Saturday after our meeting, I noticed some incredible foliage, some of which amounted to nothing more than weeds, covering this modest road. The next day at church, my friend Peter suggested we photograph that afternoon. I immediately knew it was the perfect decision – an opportunity to document the wonder I had seen the day before. I was not disappointed.

After capturing these images, I knew I was looking at the absolute symmetry of God's perfect design. If he can do this for weeds and flowers, just imagine what he can do with us if we let him.
